Jubilee vice-chair David Murathe confirmed President Uhuru had called for an urgent Parliamentary Group meeting, with Jubilee legislators at statehouse. This will be the first meeting that the deeply divided Jubilee legislators will have with the party leader since his re-election in 2017.
President Uhuru Kenyatta in a part function. The party leader had called the MPs to the meeting which will be held on Monday, May 11.A convention which the party's secretary-general Raphael Tuju had named consultative was to be held in early February 2020,but it never saw the light of the day after a couple of postponements. Members of the Tanga Tanga fanction had been at the forefront in the clamour for a PG meeting which they hoped would iron issues in the ruling party.
The postponement of the PG meeting in Jubilee party have led to division of two groups,Tanga Tanga and Kieleweke.
Jubelee sec general Rafael Tuju briefing the media in a past function Originally Tuju recently blasted them and accused them of having ulterior motives in their calls for a parliamentary group meeting. The SG said the faction wanted to discuss issues unrelated to the party's welfare. “It is fake news. There is no parliamentary group meeting of any kind. These people (Tanga Tanga) have extraneous issues unrelated to the party, and now they want to use a parliamentary group meeting to settle them," he said. "It is not that they want a PG at all, they just want to prosecute other issues outside of the party,” Tuju added.
The outfit has been in chaos which saw it tear down the middle into Kieleweke and Tanga Tanga groups. Members allied to the DP and support his 2022 presidential ambitions comprise the Tanga Tanga faction while Kieleweke is opposed to the DP's presidential bid. With the president's call for the PG meeting, one elephant in the room remains the change of party officials by Tuju despite Ruto's disapproval. Tuju indicated he had the blessings of the president to effect the changes since most members of the committee had been appointed to serve as civil servants.
We just have to wait and see if the meeting will be held, what will be discussed and if the differences of the two groups will be solved.
