President Uhuru Kenyatta at his harambee House office, confirms 2 more Kenyans test positive to COVID-19.The two patients were in contact with the first patient who was a 27-year-old woman from Ongata Rongai.
In a press briefing, the head of state also ordered for the closure of learning institutions from Monday, March 16, for day primary and secondary schools whereas boarding schools were given up to Wednesday, March 18, to suspend learning. "To this effect, we have suspended learning in all our learning institutions with immediate effect". Said Uhuru in the statement. He further suspended flights from all countries that have confirmed cases of COVID-19 and said only Kenyan citizens and foreigners with valid passports will be allowed into the country after self-quarantine. He also advised Kenyans to use cashless transactions as the virus is also transmitted through banknotes,urging mobile operators to reduce the cost of transaction. The president also urged Kenyans to avoid social gatherings such as weddings, places of worship, shopping malls and public transport. He said where applicable, workers should be allowed to work from home.
The head of state said all the directives would take place within 48 hours further urging Kenyans to remain calm in the face of the pandemic. He also warned businesses against raising prices of commodities during this period.
